What Is LASIK?
LASIK is a laser refractive surgery designed to correct common vision problems, including myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), and astigmatism.
During your consultation, our team at McCauley Celin Eyecare Associates will conduct a thorough evaluation of your eyes and vision that includes:
- Review of your eye history and refractive stability
- Eye dominance testing
- Medical assessment of your eyes and cornea
- Current refraction status

The LASIK Eye Surgery Process
LASIK eye surgery is the most commonly performed vision-correcting surgery currently available. LASIK can remove the need for visual aides and offer improved vision without having to worry about your prescription eyeglasses or contact lenses.
In eyes with normal vision, the cornea bends light onto the retina at the back of the eye with precision. When dealing with refractive errors such as myopia or hyperopia, that light gets distorted and results in blurry vision.
LASIK surgery is often completed in 30 minutes or less, and your surgeon will usually use numbing drops in your eyes and an instrument to hold your eyes open.
During your LASIK surgery, your surgeon will use a special laser to change the shape of your cornea with precision to improve your vision. Your surgeon uses the laser to cut a small flap away from the front of your eye—folding this flap back allows your surgeon to access your cornea and reshape it.
When the procedure is complete, your surgeon will adjust the flap back into place and cover the area where the corneal tissue was removed.
Your eyes may itch, burn, or water following your LASIK procedure. This reaction is normal, and you should be able to recover your vision quickly as your eyes heal. Your eye doctor can prescribe pain medication or eyedrops you may need to help with symptoms of dry eye and swelling following surgery.
It generally takes about 2 to 3 months following your LASIK procedure for your eyes to fully heal and your vision to stabilize. Although the recovery period spans a few months, you’ll be able to resume everyday activities very quickly following the procedure.

Everyone is so nice in their offices. The other day I kept the office person on the phone for the longest time trying to find the best appt time. She never even flinched! I felt so bad wasting her time but she made me feel so comfortable. Exceptional selection of glasses, and seriously sincere staff and physicians. I would recommend them to anyone. I chose this office after a bad experience with a local competing office and I am quite please with my choice!

They have 3 local offices was extensive hours. They can even accommodate patients on evenings and weekends! I saw Dr. Robert McCauley. I found him to be very pleasant and knowledgeable. The waiting room is very clean and brightly lit. As I went in the evening it was nice and quiet. It almost doesn’t matter though. Both times that I went I was taken promptly and even a little early! I only went for my contacts so I don’t have any comments regarding their frames department, but I will be sure to come back once I need new glasses.
